Gratitude for Creativity

One of the gifts I have such appreciation for in others is the gift of creativity. I love seeing what people have imagined in their minds and then created with their hands. I love seeing old and broken things repurposed into something beautiful and/or useful. I love reading what people write, seeing what they paint, viewing how they decorate their homes, watching a film they’ve shot and edited, admiring how they’ve cut and arranged flowers. I love watching artisans work on their crafts–making candles, blowing glass, pounding iron, weaving fiber, spinning yarn, designing jewelry, carving wood, forming pottery…just endless, endless possibilities for creative expression!

Isn’t it so good of God, THE Creator, to bestow on us these gifts of being able to join Him in being creative and producing works of great meaning and beauty? We are reflecting His image when we create, and it can truly be an act of worship, not just a form of self-expression.

How do you and your family members show your creativity? Is it through sewing, baking, finger-painting, gardening, drawing? God has given each of us some level of creativity, and it can be really fun to find out what it is. Parents, let’s give our kids lots of opportunities to observe and explore creativity. You never know what will stir them. I personally had no idea that I would love knitting as much as I do, but I’ve been at it pretty steadily for more than a dozen years now. What about you? What do you enjoy? Share in the comments. Bonus points if you share a picture of something you’ve created!

And whether you enjoy being creative yourself or prefer to observe others’ creativity, we can all be grateful for this wonderful gift!
