Gratitude for a Place to Live

Whether we live in a house, an apartment, with just our immediate family, with lots of extended family members, or something altogether different, we can all be grateful to have a roof over our heads. Even if we wish the circumstances or relationships underneath the roof were better, we can still be thankful that our basic need for shelter is met.

I think this is an easy one for most of us to take for granted, so let’s be intentional today about expressing gratitude for our homes and recognize that although it is a basic need, it is not one that is always met for everyone in the world. And when we catch ourselves or our families complaining about our homes, let’s intentionally make the distinction between our needs and our preferences. There is a real difference, and it will benefit our children to hear us verbally recognize this distinction.

Parents, ask your kids what they are thankful for about your home and let us know what they say!
