Gratitude for Play
Have you ever stopped to be grateful for play? Some people are really good at making play a priority for themselves and their families; others (like me) get so focused on โgetting things doneโ that we forget about the importance of play! I tend to forget how life-giving and beneficial and healthy it is to play, until Iโm actually in the midst of it. Playing together is also so good for family relationships. (Although the super-competitive families might need to find a way to play together that does not involve direct competition.)
God created the gifts of rest and recreation, and it is wrong for us to ignore them. Playing doesnโt have to involve an organized sport, running, or even a ball. There are lots of ways we can enjoy playing together with our families. And while we are doing so, letโs remember to thank God for the joy that specifically comes from playful activity. It can give our brains both rest and reset, fill our hearts, and strengthen our relationships. Iโd call that a gift!
Parents, how do you and your family most like to play together? Share in the comments! My challenge to each of us is to find at least one hour this week just to PLAY with our families. And remember to express gratitude for this gift.
