Gratitude for Transportation
This is another one that many of us take for granted! Most of our families have access to at least one personal car, and many are blessed with two or more cars for the family to use. We don’t even give it a second thought when we have to go somewhere, because we have ready transportation sitting right outside our homes.
Granted, some of us have less-reliable vehicles, and we actually do give it a second thought (and a prayer) that the car will start up and make the journey. And we are thankful when it does what it was designed to do. But for those of us with dependable vehicles, let’s remember to be grateful for these amazing machines that get us from place to place. And let’s let our children hear our gratitude for our vehicles, because that’s something they probably don’t consider either.
But besides having gratitude for automobiles, we can also be thankful for buses, planes, trains, boats…anything that gets us from one place to another and lets us more easily see the rest of this big world! If we didn’t have access to these modes of transportation, we would be much more confined to our own small pieces of the world.
Parents, let’s help ourselves and our kids be grateful for things we often take for granted. Say it out loud as you’re driving around today. And hey, if your child is riding around on a bike, point out the gift that that is to have and use. We can start small and be grateful for that, too!
This is one of those teachable moments that happens literally “as you are going.”
